Let the guests choose their own filling and sauces when constructing their shawarmas. Its a juicy and flavorful quick meal.

What you’ll need

Chicken Shawarma

  • 1.5 chicken breast, boneless and skinless (around 1 or 1.5 lb)

  • 3/4-1 tsp paprika powder

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • 3/4-1 tsp cumin powder

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 3/4-1 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3/4 -1 lemon (juice)

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1/2 onion, sliced

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced 0r 1/2-3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Humus (optional)

    Garlic Sauce

  • Vegetable oil

  • Lemon juice

  • Garlic cloves peeled or garlic powder

  • Sour cream

  • Salt

dIRECTIONS

  • In a large bowl add the lemon juice, olive oil, salt, cumin, black pepper, paprika, turmeric, red pepper flakes, cinnamon, garlic, and mix it well. Add the chicken and mix everything making sure the chicken is well coated in the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least an hour.

  • Preheat oven to 425 F degrees. Slice up the onion and add it to the bowl with the chicken and toss well so that the onion is fully coated in the marinade. Add everything to a baking dish.

  • Bake in the oven until the chicken is browned and crisp on the edges, for about 35 to 40 minutes. Most of the marinade should dry up, if the chicken is fully baked and there is a little marinade left over, that is fine.

  • Let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes, then slice it into bits.

Garlic Sauce

  • I did not provide measurements since I eye balled it, but you can add the ingredients according to how much you’d like to make. I squeezed about 1/4 of a lime, 2 teaspoons of sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and few pinches of salt. I kept tasting it as I added more to make sure it was just right.
    Chicken Shawarma Wraps

  • To make the chicken shawarma wraps, warm up the wraps first in the microwave or toaster oven, then spread some hummus over each wrap, add chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce. Then add the chicken shawarma bits, and drizzle with garlic sauce and serve!
